🔬 Why This Combination Works

The 44-9 is a thin-window pancake Geiger-Mueller detector. It is not a scintillation detector. Its broad window makes it especially useful for locating alpha, beta, and gamma contamination during close surface scans. Alpha and lower-energy beta response depend on distance, window orientation, and anything between the source and detector.

The Model 14C operates like a familiar rugged Ludlum analog ratemeter and also includes an internal high-range GM detector. Together, the internal detector and external 44-9 provide a useful combination of routine contamination sensitivity and additional survey range.

The selected Model 14C and 44-9 will be inspected, serviced as needed, and calibrated by an independent third-party laboratory after purchase. The supplied paperwork will identify the actual serialized equipment delivered and document the applicable calibration performed with standards traceable through a documented NIST measurement chain.

Please allow up to 10 business days for calibration and final preparation. It is often completed sooner. The system may be sent to the calibration laboratory as soon as payment clears, but it does not ship to the buyer until calibration and final checks are complete.
