19TH C. BLUE PAINTED DOCUMENT BOX
This offering is for an early 19th century 1800-1830s original painted folk art document storage keepsake box. Constructed of I believe to be possibly maple wood with square nails. The sides of the box are decorated with an original painted double box pinstripe in yellow stripes and red stripes. The hinged lid opens via a double metal hinge and does have a iron locking mechanism, yet missing its inner plate to close and with no key.Early 1797s and 1830s receipts included.
This box is large enough for storing documents, paper accumulations, a catch all, or storage for candles. Would look super displayed in your early cupboard or anywhere in your early home. A good size for the top of a stack.This is a decorative, quality item that has a variety of potential uses. The perfect addition to your folk art inspired interior.
APPROXIMATE MEASUREMENTS
Box measures 10 inches in length x 7-1/2 inches in width x 5-1/2 inches height.
CONDITIONThe condition is very good with wonderful age patina, but not perfect, it has been used for decades. There is minor wear, scattered use scratches, paint loss on corners, paint loss on its top with stripes faded. Hinges are very rusty yet still opens. I have not tried to clean or alter in any way, as found.
