Scarce pair of vintage United Jewish Appeal Judaica pamphlets, dating from the 1970s and apparently originating together. Offered as a set.
The first is Confronting the Holocaust and Israel by Dr. Irving Greenberg, a 22-page pamphlet presenting Greenberg’s address to participants in the 1975 UJA Study Conference. The text examines the Holocaust, Jewish identity, the State of Israel, and their significance for contemporary Jewish life. Published/issued in connection with the United Jewish Appeal.
The second is A Song of Ascent, an official United Jewish Appeal booklet intended for participants traveling on a UJA Mission to Israel. It contains prayers, blessings, meditations and readings for different stages and locations of the journey, including arrival in Jerusalem, the Western Wall, Shabbat, military cemeteries, Rachel’s Tomb, the Cave of Machpelah, and departure from Israel. Includes a prayer by Rabbi Elihu J. Steinhorn. The rear cover gives the United Jewish Appeal address at 1290 Avenue of the Americas, New York.
These two pieces were acquired together and are being kept together as a historically complementary pair of UJA/Israel ephemera. The Greenberg pamphlet is firmly associated with the 1975 UJA Study Conference; no specific publication date has been established for A Song of Ascent.
Condition: Excellent vintage condition overall. Both pamphlets are clean, complete and well preserved, with attractive covers and interiors. Only minor signs of age, storage and handling are apparent. No significant tears, staining or other major defects observed. Please examine all photographs carefully for the exact condition.
