1969 Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, Collins \"Apollo 11” PSA Type 1 Original Photo:
$1600.00

For Sale is an Historic 1969 Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins PSA Type 1 Original Photo! This historic July 3, 1969 NASA photograph captures the crew of Apollo 11—Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins, and Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin Jr.—at Kennedy Space Center during the final weeks of preparation for humanity’s first lunar landing mission. Dressed in their spacesuits and carrying their equipment, the three astronauts are photographed walking through the complex while participating in a Countdown Demonstration Test. The original NASA caption on the reverse identifies Armstrong as commander, Collins as command module pilot, and Aldrin as lunar module pilot, preserving the photograph’s connection to the preparations taking place just days before their journey to the Moon.

Only 13 days after this photograph was taken, Apollo 11 lifted off from Kennedy Space Center on July 16, 1969. Four days later, on July 20, Armstrong and Aldrin descended to the lunar surface aboard Eagle, while Collins remained in lunar orbit aboard Columbia. Armstrong became the first human to walk on the Moon, followed shortly afterward by Aldrin, while Collins played the essential role of piloting the command module that would ultimately help bring the crew home. Apollo 11 fulfilled the goal President John F. Kennedy had set earlier in the decade and became one of the defining achievements in the history of human exploration.

The Photo is 8x10in and is Encapsulated and Authenticated by PSA as a Type 1 Original Photo! The timing is what really gives this photograph its weight. Armstrong, Collins, and Aldrin are pictured on July 3, 1969, just 13 days before launch and 17 days before the first lunar landing. They hadn’t yet become the three men forever associated with Apollo 11; here, they were still preparing and rehearsing for something no human beings had ever accomplished. Knowing what awaited them makes the seemingly simple image of the three astronauts walking through Kennedy Space Center feel like a genuine moment on the threshold of history.
