Conditionally scarce in Uncirculated preservation, this 1942 Slovakia 5 Halierov is a compelling World War II-era zinc issue with strong historical character and appealing original surfaces.

The obverse presents the Slovak national arms: a patriarchal double cross rising from three hills within a central shield, surrounded by the inscription SLOVENSKA REPUBLIKA and the date 1942. The legend translates to “Slovak Republic.” The reverse is boldly dominated by the denomination 5 h, indicating five halierov, in a clean modernist style typical of wartime European small-denomination coinage. Listed as KM-8, this issue was struck in zinc, a practical wartime metal selected during a period of material shortages.

This example is offered in Uncirculated condition, showing no evident circulation wear on the primary devices. The surfaces display characteristic zinc coloration, ranging from pale silver-gray to deeper gunmetal-gray, with scattered speckling and subtle toning consistent with the composition. The central shield, cross, legends, and denomination remain well defined, with pleasing contrast between the raised design elements and surrounding fields. As is common for zinc coinage of the era, the alloy is highly susceptible to oxidation and surface deterioration, making attractive Mint State survivors notably more desirable.

Issued during the Second World War, the 1942 5 Halierov reflects the economic realities of the wartime Slovak Republic. With a reported mintage of 1,000,000 pieces, the type is obtainable in circulated grades, but truly appealing Uncirculated examples are much less frequently encountered due to the reactive nature of zinc and the heavy use of minor coinage in daily commerce.

A historically significant wartime minor coin, this 1942 Slovakia 5 Halierov combines affordable scarcity, strong type appeal, and condition-sensitive collectibility.
