1939-50 CARDINALS, RED SOX, TIGERS \'EDDIE LAKE\' SIGNED 1940 POSTCARD For Sale

This is a vintage one-cent postcard (see picture) written in his own hand by deceased Major League shortstop EDDIE LAKE. Eddie Lake played Major League baseball from 1939 through 1950 with the Cardinals, Red Sox, and Tigers. Although his career batting average was just .231, he was a solid fielder and had an uncanny ability to draw walks. Sadly, Eddie Lake passed away in 1995 at the age of 79. This postcard was canceled in Oakland, California in January 1940, and Lake has written an apology for not having a photograph, then indicating he will send one in the near future. It is clean and intact, exhibiting some wear and discoloration from handling and storage over the past 83 years. The original owner has cataloged the postcard with a typed \"Eddie Lake\" in the upper left corner, and it may have been cut down to fit a holder or album. (My apologies, as my scanner cropped some of the postcard in the picture.) This postcard would make a nice addition to your own collection, or it would make an inexpensive gift for that Eddie Lake enthusiast, Cardinals, Red Sox, or Tigers fan, or vintage autograph collector in your life!
