1937 King Edward VIII Hector Bolitho SIGNED Duke of Windsor 1963 HC Royalty For Sale

King Edward VIII: An Intimate Biography by Hector Bolitho, published by J. B. Lippincott Company, Philadelphia and London. The title page is dated 1937, and the copyright page identifies this copy as the Fourth Impression. Hardcover in red cloth with gilt lettering and royal coat-of-arms decoration, with 34 illustrations in aquatone.

The most notable feature is a mounted card bearing the royal arms and a handwritten signature reading “Edward / Duke of Windsor / May 1963.” Edward VIII abdicated the British throne in 1936 and thereafter was known as the Duke of Windsor. The 1963 date refers to the signed card and not to the publication date of the book. The signature has not been independently authenticated and is being offered exactly as shown in the photographs.

Also included is a separate card reading “WITH THE COMPLIMENTS OF THE PRIVATE SECRETARY TO THE DUKE AND DUCHESS OF WINDSOR.” Several vintage newspaper clippings concerning the Duke and Duchess of Windsor are included as well. These accompanying materials provide interesting historical context, but no claim is made regarding their precise provenance or relationship to the signed card beyond their presence with this copy.

Condition: Acceptable overall. The book shows substantial age and use, including wear and fraying to the spine ends and hinges, rubbing and fading to the cloth and gilt lettering, bumped/worn corners and edges, and general exterior wear. Interior writing/notations are present. No dust jacket. A decorative bookplate is affixed inside the front cover. The mounted Duke of Windsor card remains clearly legible.
