Wonderful original Depression-era community cookbook published in 1937 by The Cyrus Leader of Cyrus, Minnesota.The title page notes:“Material supplied through the courtesy of the ladies whose names appear within this book.”Recipes throughout are credited to individual local women, making this an especially interesting piece of Minnesota culinary, women’s and community history.Even better, this copy was clearly used and added to over many years. It contains handwritten recipes and notes, recipes clipped from newspapers or magazines, and additional recipes taped/pasted inside, giving it the wonderful character of a true working family cookbook.Recipes shown include period cakes, cookies and other dishes, with contributors’ names printed alongside their recipes.Condition: Poor/fair, but wonderfully evocative. This is an approximately 89-year-old working cookbook that saw substantial use. Covers are heavily worn, stained, creased and fragile. Front cover is detached/separated and has an old staple/wire repair. Binding is worn with page/cover separation. Pages show toning, staining, edge wear, tears and old tape repairs. Numerous handwritten and pasted/taped-in recipes are present. Please examine all photographs carefully for condition.Sold as found. Nothing has been removed, cleaned or restored.
