1932-D Washington Quarter

A mixture of high gloss and thick frost blanket each side of this gorgeous, sparkling, soft creamy golden white, slider Unc, Key Date. Very well-struck and so close to Mint State, with just the lightest dusting of friction to keep it from Mint State. AU55 is very conservative, especially considering the well-circulated pieces that frequently pass for AU58. We rarely handle this date in AU grades because we find that both eye appeal and quality are typically lacking. Here\'s the exception.
The 1932 P, D, and S Washington quarters were struck as circulating commemoratives, like the plethora of various half dollar commems being coined at this time, and the low mintages of D and S pieces reflect this. However, the need to resume a regular coinage of 25c pieces in 1934 lead to the adoption of the Washington quarter as a regular issue. No other dates compare to the scarcity of the 1932-D.
