Vintage 1927 Holton-Clarke Professional Cornet
I know just enough about brass to be dangerous, so you will likely know more about this one that I do, but I will tell you what I think I know about this cool horn:
This is a 1927 Holton-Clark model coronet made by Frank Holton & Co. in their Elkhorn, Wisconsin production era. These horns were a design collaboration between legendary cornetist Herbert Clarke with the goal of producing professional instruments aiming to achieve warmth, lyricism, and flexibility.
The case that comes with this is a poor condition Galaxy bag case that has two Vincent Bach 5c mouthpieces, a lyre, and a cleaning snake.
The horn itself seems in relatively nice condition with a minor dent in the bell that I tried to highlight in the photos and some typical dings and signs of wear. All slides move freely. The valves need cleaning and oiling as valve one is sticky and slow, valve two is a little slow, valve three is nice and quick. I'm sure the valves have not been oiled in a long time.
Corks on the spit valves look good to me and considering the age of the horn the overall condition seems nice. I played the Bb scale I remembered from high school band on the horn and the horn sounded really nice even with a hack like me taking a shot at it. I would love to get this in the right hands that can use it to its potential.
Serial number reads 63226 and the bell is engraved as "Holton-Clarke Model".
There is nothing that I can see, with my limited knowledge, that would lead me to believe that with a good cleaning and some fresh valve oil that this horn isn't good to go. But if you have any specific questions or requests for pics hit me up and I will do my best to accommodate.
