Moses (Moritz)[2] Hess (21 January 1812 – 6 April 1875)[1] was a German-Jewish philosopher, early communist and Zionist thinker.[3] His theories led to disagreements with Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels.[4] He is considered a pioneer of Labor Zionism.[3]
LEVEEN, JACOB (1891–1980), librarian and author. Born in Jerusalem, Leveen studied in England and worked for many years in the Department of Oriental Books and Manuscripts of the British Museum, from 1953–56 as keeper. He was responsible for part 4 of the Catalogue of Hebrew and Samaritan Manuscripts in the British Museum (1935). His Hebrew Bible in Art (1944, the British Academy's Schweich lectures, 1939) was a pioneer study in this field.
