1921-S Walking Liberty Half Dollar – Major Key Date
Offered here is a 1921-S Walking Liberty Half Dollar, one of the major key-date issues of the Walking Liberty Half Dollar series.
This is a genuine circulated example from the San Francisco Mint with a clearly visible “S” mintmark and attractive gray/brown circulated coloration.
Coin Details
- Series: Walking Liberty Half Dollar
- Designer: Adolph A. Weinman
- Composition: 90% Silver / 10% Copper
- Original Weight: 12.50 grams
- Diameter: Approximately 30.6 mm
- Certification: Raw / Uncertified
Condition
This is a well-circulated key-date example.
In my opinion, the coin falls approximately within the Good to Very Good range (roughly G6–VG8), but no numerical grade is guaranteed.
Positive attributes include:
- Clearly identifiable 1921 date
- Strong, easily visible S mintmark
- Largely intact peripheral rims
- Strong reverse lettering for the amount of circulation
- No obvious major rim damage, hole or bend
- Attractive gray and brown circulated toning
- Honest, heavily circulated key-date appearance
The central design exhibits substantial wear, particularly on Liberty's gown, hand and upper body and across the eagle's breast, as expected for a coin in this general grade range.
Normal circulation marks, fine lines and surface abrasions are visible. The coin also shows uneven toning/coloration. Because this coin is raw and circulated, I make no guarantee regarding whether the surfaces would receive a problem-free numerical grade from PCGS, NGC, ANACS or any other grading service.
Important Grading Disclosure
This coin is being sold raw and uncertified.
Any grade mentioned is strictly my opinion for descriptive purposes and is not a guarantee of the grade that a third-party grading service may assign.
Please examine all of the high-resolution photographs carefully. The photographs are the primary representation of the exact coin you will receive, including its wear, coloration, marks and surface characteristics.

Why the 1921-S Matters
The 1921-S is one of the major keys to the Walking Liberty Half Dollar series, with a comparatively low mintage of only 548,000 pieces. Even heavily circulated examples are actively collected by date-and-mint collectors attempting to complete the series.
This is an opportunity to acquire an affordable, clearly identifiable example of this difficult early Walking Liberty issue without paying the substantial premiums associated with higher-grade certified pieces.
