The movement is an Elgin Grade 303, Model 3, 12-size, 7-jewel mechanical movement. The movement serial number is 22,202,348.
The watch is housed in a period Bates & Bacon B&B Royal 20-Year gold-filled case, marked:
WARRANTED
B&B
ROYAL
20 YEARS
Case serial number: 6467793
The B&B Royal 20-Year case is a period gold-filled case, not solid gold. Comparable B&B Royal 20-Year cases are documented as gold-filled.
One of the most distinctive features of this watch is the dial. Beneath the printed ELGIN name is an unusual multicolor script inscription reading:
“Blair Wetzel”
The capital B and W are rendered in an orange/red color, with the remaining lettering in darker script. This appears to be a personalized or private-label-style dial inscription and gives the watch an especially unusual appearance.
Condition:
The watch does not currently run.
It has reportedly been stored in a box for approximately 25 years and has not been cleaned, serviced or lubricated during that time. No attempt has been made to force the movement or perform repairs. The cause of the non-running condition has not been diagnosed.
The case shows scratches, surface wear, rubbing and other signs of age consistent with an antique gold-filled pocket watch. The dial shows spotting, discoloration and general age-related wear. Please review the photographs carefully for exact cosmetic condition.
