Original 1910 handwritten diary belonging to Mrs. W. H. Anderson of 291 French Street, Bangor, Maine.
The diary is densely filled with handwritten entries documenting daily family and social life in Bangor and the surrounding area. Entries mention household work, sewing, baking, shopping, church services, visitors, letters, illnesses, school activities, sleighing, skating, theater outings and travel by train to places including Brewer and Bucksport.
Numerous family members, friends, neighbors and other local residents are named throughout, giving the diary particularly good genealogical and Maine social-history interest. Frequently mentioned names include Will, Marion and Ethel.
Original business stamp inside reads “W. H. Anderson, Gen. Agts., 291 French Street, Bangor, Maine.”
The handwriting is dense and sometimes challenging to decipher. Diary shows age and use, including wear to the cover, edge wear, marks, toning and some looseness, but it remains an evocative original record of one Bangor woman’s life in 1910.
