Offered here is an uncommon antique two-volume Point Loma edition of Helena P. Blavatsky’s influential work Isis Unveiled. Both hardcover volumes are included:

Volume I – Science
Volume I examines what Blavatsky describes as the “infallibility” of modern science. It explores occult science, ancient philosophy, spiritualism, mesmerism, psychic phenomena, magic, elementals, hidden forces of nature, and the relationship between the physical and spiritual aspects of humanity. Blavatsky contrasts the materialistic scientific thought of her era with the ancient Hermetic and esoteric traditions she believed preserved a more complete understanding of nature.

Volume II – Theology
Volume II examines religion, theology, mythology, and the origins of religious beliefs. Blavatsky compares Christianity with older Eastern and Western traditions, including Hinduism, Buddhism, the Vedas, Zoroastrianism, Hermetic philosophy, and ancient mystery religions. The volume discusses religious symbolism, miracles, scripture, early Christianity, and the idea that the world’s religions share an underlying ancient “Wisdom-Religion.”

Originally published in 1877, Isis Unveiled was Blavatsky’s first major work and became an important foundational text of the modern Theosophical movement. This is the later 1906 Point Loma Edition rather than the 1877 first edition. The set includes a portrait frontispiece of Blavatsky in Volume I. The work remains of interest to collectors and readers of Theosophy, occult philosophy, comparative religion, mysticism, spiritualism, Hermeticism, and esoteric history.

CONDITION:

Vintage/antique used condition with considerable age-related wear. Please review all photographs carefully, as they are an important part of the condition description.

• Both Volume I: Science and Volume II: Theology are present.
• Original blue cloth hardcover bindings with gilt spine lettering.
• Heavy rubbing, fading, discoloration, dust, and surface wear to the covers.
• Considerable fraying, chipping, and cloth loss at the spine ends and corners.
• Bindings are shaken and weakened, with separation and exposed sewing visible at some hinges and gutters.
• Some pages and gatherings may feel loose due to the weakened bindings; the books should be handled carefully.
• Page edges are darkened and discolored with age.
• Interior pages show toning, scattered foxing, spotting, stains, and other age-related discoloration.
• Heavier spotting and discoloration are visible around the Volume I portrait and title pages.
• Previous owner’s inscription dated March 1907 appears on a front endpaper.
• No dust jackets.
• These books have not been professionally restored or page-by-page collated.
