Early 1895 Neely issue in original blue cloth "target" binding with silver title stamping and red border design. The sheets and advertisements are consistent with a first edition. It does not, however, come in the green lizard binding most associated with the true first edition copies. It is perhaps most likely a first edition but not a first printing.

Original cloth binding with general shelf wear, spotting to boards, and edge wear

Front and Rear hinge starting with mull visible; boards remain attached with only slight movement

Binding remains sound overall

Interior pages clean and well preserved

A possible early bookplate or sticker is partially left on interior of front board.

A solid, unrestored collector copy of an increasingly sought-after weird fiction classic, influential on later writers including H.P. Lovecraft and associated with the literary origins of "Carcosa" and "The Yellow King."
