The reverse bears Eisenmann’s printed photographer’s advertisement and a period ink inscription reading “Admiral Dot.” The inscription appears consistent with a presentation autograph, although it has not been professionally authenticated and is therefore being offered as apparently signed. The CDV exhibits overall toning, scattered spotting, surface wear, light staining and handling around the edges and rounded corners. Please inspect the photographs carefully for the complete condition.
Admiral Dot was one of the better-known little-person entertainers of the late 19th century, and Charles Eisenmann specialized in portraits of circus, dime-museum and sideshow performers. This is an appealing full-length pose with a particularly strong Eisenmann studio setting and the added interest of the period inscription on the reverse.
