• The Issuer: This note was prepared for the Banco de la Unión, a private banking institution established in Quito on October 25, 1880, by financial pioneers José Sarama and Manuel Villota. It was the second bank founded in the capital city.
• The Currency: It originates from a time when Ecuador utilized the Peso system. Private commercial banks were legally permitted to design, print, and back their own paper currency with silver or gold reserves.
