This is not a normal old school book. This is an original 1877 Michigan state education report, printed while Michigan’s public school system was still being built.
Inside are reports and records tied to Michigan public schools, school districts, teachers, wages, school libraries, the University of Michigan, Michigan Agricultural College, State Normal School, reform school, and other state education records from the 1876 school year.
The best story is the paper trail. This copy later belonged to the Library and Reading Room of the Town of Amherstburg, Ontario. The pasted label says it was added to the library in May 1881. That gives the book a real 1800s institutional history, crossing from Michigan state education into a Canadian town library.
