The entry states that “Rebels took possession of this place June 19th 1863” and describes several hours of plundering under Gen. Jenkins. It continues with additional rebel movements through McConnellsburg, including a force described as approximately 1,600 strong.
Especially interesting are entries concerning Gen. Milroy\'s scouts, an ambush beyond Jones on the mountain, cavalry raids, skirmishing, Confederate prisoners, and troop strengths. A later entry dated July 30, 1864 records another cavalry raid of approximately 2,500 or 3,000 men, mentioning Generals McCausland and Johnson, followed by General Averell\'s cavalry, described as about 3,000 strong.
A fascinating surviving piece of local Pennsylvania Civil War history, with unusually specific references to Confederate raids, commanders, cavalry movements, scouting, ambushes, captures and troop numbers.

Condition: Heavily age worn with substantial old water staining/damage, discoloration, spotting, edge wear, tears and losses, creasing and general fragility. Writing remains substantially legible despite the damage. Please examine photographs carefully for condition and content.
