An especially interesting feature is the separate New Testament title page dated 1818, published in Boston by West and Richardson, No. 75 Cornhill, and also stereotyped by E. and J. Collins.
The front contains an early handwritten ownership/presentation inscription reading “Lucy Bartholomew’s Book, presented by her father”, accompanied by a decorative pen flourish.
Bound in full brown leather with a contrasting burgundy HOLY BIBLE spine label.
This is a notably compact and substantial early American Bible, measuring approximately 7 × 4 × 3.5 inches. Its unusually thick text block gives it a distinctive small-format appearance compared with the much larger quarto Bibles of the period.
Interior remains quite readable despite more than 200 years of age. Please see photographs for the title pages, inscription, binding, interior and specific areas of wear.
Condition:Pages show age toning, scattered foxing/spotting, handling wear, creasing, and occasional tears and old repairs consistent with a Bible of this age. Exterior leather shows substantial rubbing and wear, including losses at the spine ends and edges. Boards remain attached. Please review all photographs carefully for condition.
