The product is an 1819 Ferdinand VII 8 Real coin from Mexico during the Second Republic period. This silver coin has a composition of .903 silver and carries a historical significance as a piece of North and Central American numismatic history. As a product of the Second Republic era, it represents a time of political change and economic development in Mexico during the 19th century. Struck in 1819 during the late Colonial Era, this coin was minted just two years before the culmination before the Mexican War of Independence in 1821.  Because of this it represents one of the final Colonial Era pieces of 8 produced by Spain in the New World. This coin was issued under King Ferdinand VII of Spain (whose portrait is featured on the obverse). His turbulent reign saw the collapse of the Spanish empire in the Americas. Backed by Mexico's immense silver wealth, these coins circulated globally heavily influencing early American commerce and directly inspiring the design and weight specifications of the original US silver dollar. This coin was minted in the Mexico City mint which is the oldest active mint in the Americas. The JJ assayer's initials represents two mint officials responsible for testing and guaranteeing the weight of the silver. Their names were Jose Rafael de la Pena and Jose Garcia. In 1819 Spanish minister Do Luis de Onis and US Secretary of State John Quincy Adams signed the Florida Purchase Treaty, in which Spain agrees to cede the remainder of it's province of Florida to the United States.
