1808 East India Company 10 Cash — Admiral Gardner Shipwreck Coin
Genuine historical 1808 East India Company 10 Cash copper coin associated with the wreck of the Admiral Gardner, presented in its American Historic Society holder with Certificate of Authenticity.
The Admiral Gardner departed England in January 1809 bound for India carrying cargo that included newly minted copper coins for the East India Company. The ship was lost during a severe storm on the Goodwin Sands off the English coast.
The wreck was rediscovered in the 20th century, and quantities of its 1808 copper coin cargo were subsequently recovered after spending approximately 175 years underwater.
