Antique hand-colored aquatint/stipple engraving titled “Driving Elephants Into a Keddah,” with the French title “Des Elephants, Conduits Dans un Keddah.”
The plate is dated June 4, 1805 and published by Edward Orme of London. The inscription identifies Samuel Howitt as the artist after an original design by Captain Thomas Williamson, with engraving by Henri Merke. This image originally appeared in the celebrated “Oriental Field Sports” series depicting Indian wildlife, hunting, and customs.
The print appears to be an early/original-period impression; however, it has not been removed from the frame or professionally authenticated and is therefore being sold as pictured.

Condition:
Antique condition with visible age toning, scattered spotting/foxing, and a noticeable brown mark beneath the image near the lower-left portion of the title area. The frame shows light surface wear consistent with age. The rear paper covering has discoloration, wrinkles, and tearing along the edges. The print has not been removed from the frame for inspection. Glass may show reflections in the photographs.
