Up for sale is an authentic 1797 Great Britain Cartwheel Twopence, struck under King George III at Matthew Boulton's Soho Mint in Birmingham.
These coins earned their famous "Cartwheel" nickname from their massive size (around 41mm) and heavy two-ounce copper weight, combined with a bold raised rim and incused lettering — a first in coinage, made possible by Boulton's revolutionary steam-powered coining press. The Soho Mint was the first mint in the world to use steam power for striking coins, and these pieces marked a major turning point in minting technology.
