Rare original edition from the famous Histoire naturelle of the French naturalist Georges-Louis Leclerc, Comte de Buffon (1707–1788).
The eleventh volume in the series is the Birds (Oiseaux) dedicated and includes detailed scientific descriptions and engravings of exotic species - including hummingbirds, insectivores, and cuckoos.
Format: approx 20 x 12.5 cm.
Binding: All leather strap of the time with rich back gilding and marbled cut.
Condition: Copy complete, with all copper plates. Cover with heavier signs of wear, some rubbed off, bottom edge some slightly water marks. Interior clean and tightly tied, copperplate engravings in good condition.
