Genuine silver cob recovered from the 1715 Spanish Treasure Fleet, which sank in a hurricane off the east coast of Florida on July 31, 1715. Comes with its original Cobb Coin Company, Inc. Certificate of Authenticity, signed by Mel Fisher (President), plus the archaeologist and historian.
The coin is marked as #33 on both the certificate and its original paper holder. The certificate also has the coin\'s outline traced on it, with the weight handwritten as 5.60 grams, so the coin and paperwork are clearly matched.
ABOUT THE COIN- Denomination: 8 Reales (marked \"8R\" on the original holder)- Weight: 5.60 grams- Metal: Silver- Mint: Spanish Colonial, most likely Mexico City- Date: Not visible. Minted before the fleet sailed in 1715.- Condition: Heavily sea-eroded, as is typical for 1715 Fleet silver that spent 265+ years under salt water. The cross is visible on one side. The date, mint mark and shield are worn away. The coin is thin and well under the normal 8 Reales weight because of this erosion.
