Up for sale is a rare and impressive 17-inch Italian studio art pottery wall charger from the Falisca Ars (FA CC) workshops of Civita Castellana, Italy, dating to the 1920s.
This piece is executed in true sgraffito, where the design is hand-carved directly through layers of underglaze down to the red earthenware body. It features a detailed profile portrait of Benito Mussolini (DVX). What makes this specific charger particularly rare is the early iconography: it depicts him with a full head of hair, created well before the common, shaved-head propaganda portraits of the 1930s.
The charger measures a full 17 inches in diameter, making it a large display piece. The back bears the official Falisca Ars (FA CC) factory mark.
