For your consideration are a delightful pair of miniature seascapes of the California coast. The artworks are done in oil on canvas board, in the plein air style. Artist is E. Ravel, or at least I think that’s what is signed to lower bottom left and right.
Subject is the California coastline. The artist captures rocky outcroppings in one painting, while the other shows a sunset, with vivid colors of apricot and dusky rose. The pieces definitely compliment one another.
Art measures approximately 3 x 4”. If I had to venture a guess, I would say these were painted in the 1930s. Given their age, owner may wish to get them cleaned. It is incredible how bright and beautiful colors become when a painting is properly cleaned. The paintings are otherwise in terrific shape with no other conditions to note.
Both artworks are housed in their original framing. Frames are carved wooden pieces in historic green gold. Unfortunately, the frames are peeling from age. It is possible to restore them, or perhaps the buyer will choose to repaint them. Maybe they will be reframed entirely.
The paper backing on both frames has been removed. This is easily remedied by new owner, or for a nominal fee at any frame shop. Structurally, the frames are in great shape for their age. No other conditions to note.
These pieces were often sold to tourists as they toured the coast. This is a chance to buy two delightful pieces of California history, for a reasonable price.
