This is a vintage Cabart à Parisbassoon. Please note: I have been corrected; the keywork is not French system, but rather, German. (That\'s what I get for trusting Ai!) It was made probably in the 1930s, but it might be as early as the 1920s or as late as the \'40s. It came out of the estate of someone who had been a member of the San Francisco Symphony in the 1950s and \'60s.
Cabart is renowned for high-quality French woodwinds. Interestingly, it comes with a bocal from the German company Schreiber und Sohne, and it is a #1 length, and \"XH\" (hard nickel silver with the \"X\" bore and taper). Schreiber made high-quality bocals that are worth a few hundred dollars on their own.
There are 2 crutches -- one wood, one plastic.The rim of the bell has a hole drilled in it.The original hard-shell case with a faux alligator pattern and blue velvet lining is included. It shows wear and age, but is still rock-solid, presentable, clean and intact. One of the 3 latches does not latch. Inside the compartment are 2 neck straps, 5 reeds and cork grease.
