The company played a key role in Japan’s homefront mobilization, providing military insurance to soldiers and their families—a symbolic gesture of state support and national unity under wartime propaganda. The lid features an embossed image of Urashima Taro riding a turtle toward the Dragon Palace, reflecting traditional Japanese legends about good fortune and long life.
On the underside is a star and sakura crest with the inscription “Five Hundred Million Yen Achievement – Fukoku Conscription Insurance Mutual Company.” This unique blend of myth and wartime mobilization tells the story of how every corner of society—right down to household insurance—was drawn into the machinery of total war.
