Original Imperial German Bavarian Model 1889-style officer’s sword/degen, complete with its black steel scabbard. A very attractive antique military sword featuring an ornate Bavarian guard and extensively etched blade.The openwork guard features the distinctive Bavarian lion holding the traditional diamond-pattern Bavarian shield. The ricasso bears the balance scales / ACS maker’s trademark associated with Alexander Coppel of Solingen, Germany.The blade features elaborate decorative etching on both sides, including the traditional Bavarian motto “In Treue Fest,” commonly translated as “Steadfast in Loyalty” / “Firm in Loyalty.” The etched panels retain very nice detail and are one of the highlights of this sword.The sword has a black ribbed grip and is accompanied by its black-painted steel scabbard with suspension ring.Approximate measurements:

Blade length from guard to tip: 33 inchesThis is an antique piece and shows age and use throughout. The blade has areas of spotting, discoloration, oxidation and some small areas of pitting/finish loss. The guard and metal fittings show age-related patina, discoloration and wear. The black grip has visible wear and finish loss. The scabbard has scratches, paint loss, oxidation/rust and general surface wear consistent with age.
No attempt has been made to polish, refinish or restore the sword. It is being offered in the condition shown.
