Up for sale is an incredibly rare, 100% factory-original survivor piece of post-WWII Zippo and American petroleum history. This late 1940's, dating between 1947-1949, patent-era Zippo commemorates the 1941 Annual Meeting of the American Institute of Mining and Metallurgical Engineers (A.I.M.E.) on the front, while the reverse features a sharp, crisp engraving of the historic "Humble #1" oil derrick, linking directly to the early roots of Humble Oil . Humble #1 I believe, was the first well to produce oil in 1905 in Humble, TX. Humble later became ESSO, then EXXON. This lighter is an absolute holy grail for purist collectors, featuring the highly elusive post-war 4-barrel internal hinge configuration paired with its factory-matching, completely un-stamped 14-hole chimney insert (7 holes per side), which is textbook correct for this exact manufacturing run. The bottom stamp on the outer case is deeply struck and reads cleanly with the historic Patent 2032695 block logo. The case exhibits an honest, beautiful pocket patina with zero artificial polishing, mild natural rim wear, and gorgeous brassing peeking through under the hinge barrels. The graphics and lettering remain wonderfully legible, and the mechanism retains excellent structural integrity with a tight hinge and strong spring action.
