This is a vintage Hemingray No. 42 glass insulator, a highly recognizable piece of industrial history produced by the Hemingray Glass Company.
Purpose: These were mounted on wooden crossarms of utility poles to support and insulate telegraph and telephone wires, preventing the electrical signals from leaking into the poles.
Design Elements: This specific model features a double-groove style (classified as a CD 154) in a classic aqua/teal green color, with a ribbed base rim and "MADE IN U.S.A." embossed across the front and back "Hemingray No. 42" skirt.
Collectibility: Millions of these were produced from the 1920s through the mid-20th century, Many uss them for a variety of things ie. doorstop, garden and home decor, and a suncatcher on window sills. Teflects such a pretty aqua color. Not sure the exact age of this one. It could very well be an antique( over 100 years old!) It is in very good condition. The inner piece has a couple areas that feel a liitle sharp along the rim. This is the reason I do not list as excellent condition.
