This is a rare promotional piece tied directly to Members Only’s historic 1988 U.S. Presidential Election voter registration campaign.

The Historical Context: In 1988, instead of spending their multi-million dollar ad budget on traditional fashion models or celebrity endorsements, Members Only’s CEO Herb Goldsmith devoted their entire marketing campaign to public service announcements. Following an anti-drug campaign, they launched a massive national get-out-the-vote push centered on voter registration.

The Slogan: "There's no excuse not to vote" was one of the primary taglines used during this push. Jackets bearing this embroidery were produced in limited quantities as promotional items for election campaign staff, poll volunteers, retail displays, and media giveaways to support the initiative.

Dating the Tag: The black inner woven neck tag ("MEMBERS ONLY" repeated three times with a size tag beneath) and the small "MADE IN HONG KONG" loop tag are consistent with late-1980s production.
