The caption reads “A Chinese Pawn Shop in Dalny” and shows a storefront scene with a Japanese soldier on horseback arriving at the shop while another man stands near the entrance. Chinese characters appear on the shop signs and a cart sits outside the building.
The reverse description explains that the store represents a typical Chinese pawn shop in the city of Dalny during the Russo-Japanese War period. The soldier on horseback is described as a general’s orderly arriving to make a purchase while the merchant’s stock included goods acquired after Dalny was evacuated by Russian forces in 1904.
This stereoview is part of the Ingersoll Manchuria series documenting scenes from Dalny, Port Arthur, and surrounding areas during the early 1900s conflict in the region.
Condition shows age-appropriate wear including light edge wear, corner rounding, and surface toning from age. Please review the photos carefully to judge condition.
