Dana Bartlett (American 1882 - 1957) Title: UntitledYear: 20th centuryMedium: Oil on cardboardSize: 12\" x 15\" unframed, 16\" x 19\" w/ framesigned lower left Dana Bartlett was born in Ionia Michigan and initially studied art in his hometown before moving to New York to learn under William Merritt Chase and Charles Warren Eaton at the Art Students League. In his 20\'s he moved every few years. He first opened a studio in Boston before relocating to Portland and then San Francisco. In 1915 he settled down in Los Angeles becoming a prominent member of the Eucalyptus School. In 1924 he went to Paris to study etching with Armand Coussens. When he returned to LA he received a position as a professor at the Chouinard Institute. In 1927 he had his first successful solo exhibition at LACMA. He remained in LA for the rest of his life. He was a member of a number of artists\' clubs. He was president of the California Art Club in 1922. He was the president and founder of the California Watercolor Society. Today his works are in the collections of many California art museums, including LACMA. His works are also in the Boston Public Library and the National Gallery. The record price at sale for Bartlett was $77,675 for \"By the Sea\" sold at Christie\'s in 2002.
