A vintage wooden travel chess set: a hinged two-tone hardwood case that opens into a pegged 8x8 board and a velvet-lined storage half.
What makes it is the engineering of the thing — every square is drilled for a peg-footed piece, so the game travels mid-play and the velvet half closes down over the top to hold everything in place.

The pieces are turned with cut ring detail — flat-carved knights, crenellated rooks, notch-cut bishops — and the board pairs dark reddish-brown squares with pale cream ones, the same two woods used for the two sides. It is a full set in its own case, so it is ready to play the day it lands.
