History of the Seiko YT02A Energy Supplier
Seiko revolutionized horology in the late 1980s by introducing \"AGS\" (Automatic Generating System), later rebranded in 1993 as the Seiko Kinetic series. Kinetic movements combined the precision of quartz timing with an internal automatic winding rotor that generated electrical energy stored in a capacitor/battery.
As Kinetic watches expanded across multiple calibers, authorized Seiko jewelers and service centers needed a fast, reliable method to charge customer watches during servicing or showcase displays without taking them apart. Seiko manufactured the YT02A Energy Supplier, utilizing high-frequency alternating electromagnetic induction to wirelessly charge the internal storage unit through the dial casing.
Seiko has long since discontinued production of the YT02A, making original factory units extremely scarce.
