Modern Historical Note:This historic stone aqueduct still stands in downtown Rochester today! After the Erie Canal was rerouted in 1918, the structure was converted to support the Broad Street Bridge on its upper deck, while the inner canal bed carried the Rochester Subway system from 1927 to 1956.
