A beautiful navy blue sodalite beaded necklace with (12) etched sterling Navajo pearl style beads flanking (a strong) magnetic closure, both ends stamped “925.”
…and, a vintage Michael Thompson (Dine’ jewelry artist from the Navajo Nation) cross pendant (unsigned) completes this piece (central beaded cross moves on small bale) and features intricate detailing; pointed flared tips, decorative scalloped edges and open cut-out windows (see photos) all giving this piece lots of beautiful, unique character.
This cross design was inspired by traditional Spanish Colonial stamped tin work (often associated with Southwest jewelry styles.)
Please note; I believe this necklace was modified and had the cross added to a non-Native American piece (cable wire on silver bead stringing is not typical NA; they use silver chain or, foxtail and the magnetic closure is not traditional in Navajo jewelry making.) Unusual as this piece is, it is well constructed and wears beautifully. Wish I knew its history.
In excellent vintage condition. Good weight. Please see photos. Ready to wear and enjoy (if you struggle with spring ring/lobster style necklace fasteners, this magnetic closure is rather brilliant.)
