The Mitchell 408 is the high speed version of the Mitchell 308 having a 6:1 retrieve ratio. It is painted midnight blue unlike the 308 which is painted black. This reel is in unblemished mint condition with spare small capacity spool.
The mechanics are excellent; however, it comes with the original gear lube thus it is a bit stiff turning at first until the lube loosens up. If you intend to fish with it, you should remove the old lube and add new lube.
This reel is the 1st of 4 eventual versions (factory modifications) of this reel and was made in France sometime in 1963-1964.
