# Vintage Mexican Jaguar (Tigre) Dance Mask - Hand-Carved Wood Folk Art
Up for sale is an authentic, field-worn vintage Mexican Jaguar/Tiger dance mask (Máscara de Tigre).This striking piece of ethnographic folk art is hand-carved from a single solid block of wood,originating from the celebrated festive dance traditions of Guerrero, Mexico.
The mask is finished in a bold, aged yellow base coat heavily adorned with hand-painted blacktriangular jaguar spots and a prominent black forehead stripe. The stylized almond eyes are detailedwith fine, dramatic eyelashes, leading down to an aggressive snarl featuring an open red mouth,exposed teeth, and a carved snout.
The reverse side shows superb age, displaying deep oxidation, beautiful wood grain textures, andthe smooth convex curvature left by the artisan\'s hand-chisels.
