Vintage Mexican folk art pottery olla / vessel measuring approximately 8” tall.
Handcrafted from reddish earthenware with two applied handles and hand-painted cream/white spiral and floral-style decoration accented with dark brown/black brushwork.
An especially interesting feature is an incised marking/signature on the lower exterior of the vessel. I have been unable to positively identify the artist or pottery workshop, so it is being offered as an unidentified signed/marked piece rather than attributed to a specific maker.
The pottery shows irregularities, surface wear, discoloration, small marks and firing imperfections consistent with handmade pottery and age. The underside and lower portion show considerable natural wear/patina. Please examine all photographs carefully as they are an important part of the condition description.
No attempt has been made to clean or restore the pottery.
A wonderfully rustic piece of vintage Mexican pottery with a great primitive folk-art appearance.
Maker, exact age and specific regional origin have not been independently authenticated.
