Vintage Kyūsu side handle Japanese teapot, the teapot for brewing traditional green tea. This can probably be considered Tokoname Ware from that region of Japan. This hand thrown style is known as Yokode Kyusu. The side handle is designed to allow you to pour every drop of tea. The handle is ridged for easier gripping.
This measures 6 inches high, and approximately 9 inches from back to the spout and handle. The inside and outside glazed in a thick warm brown. There are no chips or cracks. The bottom looks like it's been held over a fire. The dark staining obscures any mark that may have been there. This is heavy, about 3 1/2 pounds and it feels good in your hand.
