Artist: Utagawa Kunisada (also known as Utagawa Toyokuni III, 1786–1864). His signature cartouche, "Toyokuni ga" (豊国画), is visible in the yellow vertical box on the left-hand side. Subject: A dramatic scene from a Kabuki theater play depicting two stylized actors wearing elaborate patterned kimonos. This is a classic Kabuki theater print (yakusha-e) depicting actors dressed as samurai or legendary figures in a dramatic stance, featuring a distinctive checkered pattern design (ichimatsu) in the upper corner Era: Edo Period (19th century). 14.5 x 12”.
