Vintage Handmade Folk Art Wood Farm Wagon Working Brakes Primitive Western For Sale

There was a time on an American farm when almost anything that was needed could be made in the barn or workshop with a few pieces of wood, some wire, a handful of nails and enough patience. This remarkable miniature farm wagon came directly from a century farm estate, where it was said to have been handmade by a member of the family. Whoever built it wasn’t satisfied with simply making something that looked like a wagon. The wooden spoked wheels roll, the front wheels swivel for steering, and it even incorporates a working brake mechanism. The wagon was outfitted like it was ready for a trip into town, complete with a wooden seat, miniature barrels, cloth sacks, tied wooden crates, tools and other tiny pieces of cargo. Nothing about it has the polished sameness of a factory model—the saw marks, uneven boards, simple hardware and hand-fashioned components are exactly what give it the character of genuine homemade folk art.

It’s easy to picture this sitting for decades somewhere in that old farmhouse, made by someone who understood how the full-size equipment outside the barn actually worked. Today it would be right at home on a heavy timber mantel in a Western lodge, ranch house, hunting cabin or primitive country interior, surrounded by old saddles, advertising signs and weathered farm implements. The wagon shows age, dust, surface wear, rough edges, small losses and the irregularities you’d expect from a handmade piece that has survived for years. Please study the photographs closely, particularly the underside and small components, as they tell the story better than any attempt at restoration ever could.
