This signed and numbered limited edition mixed media artwork by Nissan Engel (1931-2016) is a stunning example of his distinctive artistic style. Born in Haifa in 1931, Engel initially set aside his artistic pursuits to participate in Israel’s fight for independence in 1948. Following the war, he studied at the Bezalel School of Arts and Crafts in Jerusalem before moving to France in 1956 to further his training in stage design at Strasbourg under Michel St. Denis of London’s Old Vic.
Engel’s career flourished with exhibitions at prestigious galleries worldwide, including Galerie André Weill in Paris, Galleria Napoleone in Milan, and galleries in Cannes, Rome, London, and New York. He later relocated to New York, where he continued to create compelling works of art.
This original signed and numbered piece showcases Engel’s mastery of mixed media, blending elements of graphic art with his signature artistic vision. The frame measures 17” x 21”, with a matte size of 15.5” x 19.5” and a sight size of 11.5” x 15.5”. While there is some foxing on the matte near the signature, as shown in the photos, the print itself remains in good condition with minimal signs of age.
