Measuring approximately 78" x 110", this substantial cream-to-ivory spread features the Queen Elizabeth pattern's dramatic central medallion surrounded by elaborate raised floral, foliate and scrolling designs, architectural woven borders and a generous decorative fringe.
The dimensions are particularly consistent with a vintage twin-size Queen Elizabeth spread. Comparable examples identified as twin measure approximately 78" x 106" and 80" x 111", while a current vintage example measuring 80" x 109.5" is also in essentially this same size range.
Bates introduced the Queen Elizabeth design in 1953 to commemorate the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. According to the Bates Mill Store's history of the pattern, designer George Mills developed the design around a center medallion at a time when Bates bedspread patterns had previously relied largely upon all-over repeats.
