Vintage 1980s–1990s Jumbo Novelty Character Pencils – Lot of 6 – Approx. 19” Long
Extremely unusual vintage set of six oversized novelty pencils, each measuring approximately 19 inches long. These are much larger than a standard pencil and feature colorful wraparound cartoon/anime character graphics, gold-tone metal ferrules, eraser ends, and molded plastic protective caps. A very strange assortment of characters seen together in one pack.
The pencils remain together in their original vintage plastic packaging with the original barcode label. This is a particularly unique assortment because the pencils feature an eclectic mixture of recognizable cartoon and anime characters and character-inspired artwork from different franchises. The graphics, oversized construction, packaging, and novelty-store styling are characteristic of character stationery commonly seen during the 1980s/1990s era.
Pencil designs include:
* Light blue Winnie the Pooh-style pencil: Features recognizable Winnie the Pooh, Tigger and Piglet imagery along with additional whimsical cartoon animals/characters. Tigger appears multiple times along the pencil, and Pooh is clearly pictured in his classic red shirt.
* Dark blue mixed cartoon pencil: Features Porky Pig imagery, and 7 dwarves along with several other colorful cartoon figures. There are numerous small repeating characters that I couldn’t identify throughout the design, making this one particularly unusual.
* Green multicolor character pencil: Features a variety of colorful children’s cartoon/toy-style characters, including teddy-bear and clown/doll-like figures against a green, yellow and multicolor airbrushed background from the short running 2009 TV show Noddy in Toy land.
* Pink Dragon Ball pencil #1: Features numerous Dragon Ball / Dragon Ball Z-style characters, including Goku and Super Saiyan characters, with multiple action poses and the distinctive spiky Super Saiyan hairstyles. Other figures appear to resemble characters such as Vegeta/Trunks and additional Dragon Ball characters.
* Pink Dragon Ball pencil #2: Another extensive Dragon Ball / Dragon Ball Z-style design with Goku, Super Saiyan characters and several additional fighters/characters in different outfits and poses. The artwork repeats at various points along the approximately 19-inch pencil.
* Yellow mixed-character pencil: Features another assortment of colorful vintage cartoon-style characters porky pig and a different cartoon pig, Minnie Mouse? and marijuana leafs.
These have a fantastic vintage 80s/90s novelty-store / arcade-prize / carnival prize charm and would make an unusual display piece for a collector of vintage school supplies, oversized pencils, anime memorabilia, cartoon memorabilia, or unusual character merchandise.
Condition: Vintage old stock with age and storage wear. The pencils themselves appear unused. Original outer plastic packaging shows considerable age-related wear, wrinkling, creasing, tears/separation and old tape, as pictured. One pencil is missing its molded plastic protective cap, and one pencil is missing its eraser end. There is also an old partial price sticker/sticker residue on the packaging.
